I Can Do That Project Promise: Our curriculum is based on the promise that every child who successfully completes our program will be prepared for higher education. We believe every child has the right to a college education and should be provided the resources to achieve. The I Can Do That Project is a community-based program that provides low-income students from diverse backgrounds with the academic and leadership resources needed to achieve personal and academic excellence in school and attain a high school diploma. Seventy percent of these students are from under-represented minority groups. The program provides tutoring to students struggling in writing, mathematics and science in grades 9-12. The program also provides leadership and diversity training for students and educational workshops tailored to support the student advocacy needs of caretakers and parents.

YOUTH EDUCATORS STOPPING VIOLENCE PROJECT (YESNP)

The purpose of the Youth Educators Stopping Violence Now Project (YESNP) curriculum is the development of a strategic and proactive response to the epidemic of youth violence in schools and the inner city communities of metropolitan Washington, DC. This violence prevention curriculum and initiative can only be successful with stakeholders in the community including law enforcement agencies, businesses, politicians, school departments, colleges and universities, educators, parents and the youth in our schools and communities. The curriculum is based on the premise that youth violence is preventable. Many youth in our society grow up in a cycle of violence that provides no alternatives to gangs, guns, knives, fights, crime and the “I am going to get them before they get me attitude”. The Youth Educators Stopping Violence Now curriculum provides constructive and culturally relevant insights and skills on how to recognize and respond to experiences and environments that sometimes lead to violence. Participants are encouraged to use their own personal power and alternative strategies offered in the curriculum to constructively respond to potentially violent situations.
